The West Central Texas Council of Governments has a newly created position in their accounting group and is seeking an accounting professional who has at least two years of accounting experience in a public accounting firm or professional services organization and a good understanding of accounting principles.
To be considered, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting along with superior organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to communicate with and work well with all levels of Council employees. Reports to: Director of Finance
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Two (2) years of related accounting experience.
Prepare and maintain financial and business transactions that include work that is analytical, evaluative and advisory in nature and that which requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice and application of general accounting principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs.
Basic understanding of financial and Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities in a high energy environment.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communications.
Ability to maintain attention to detail and ability to work effectively within deadlines.
Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.
Must possess ability to balance individual and Council responsibilities and contribute to building a positive team spirit.
Job Function (duties and responsibilities):
Review day-to-day accounting processes, such as cash, accounts payables and purchase card reconciliation activity.
Review and maintain accurate accounting data, to include but not limited to, vendor information, data entries, proper coding, etc.
Analyze the effects of transactions on account relationships.
Provide support for department managers on retrieving financial information from accounting website software and act as an advisor on accounting matters.
Review, prepare or enter various journal entries, including monthly allocations.
Clarify any questionable invoice items, prices or acceptance signatures and obtain proper information and/or data required for invoice payment.
Perform various other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance
Position requires routine face-to face personal interaction with other department personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Council offices and not in a telecommuting manner.
Travel Requirements: Some travel will be required.
